Don’t you wish you could go back and discover your favorite bands all over again? I still remember the first time I heard the Furs. I was 22 and I had gotten a couple of their records because I had heard they were good (I still don’t understand how I lived so much of my life without ever knowing them; it’s embarrassing really), and I just popped one on the record player. I started to walk away to make some lunch, and this song started. I stopped dead in my tracks, went back to the turntable and picked up the record sleeve. I sat there watching the record spin until side one was over, then flipped it over and listened to the other side. Then I put on “Forever Now” and listened to that whole thing. Then I started over. I sat there all afternoon in a trance and it was amazing. The next weekend I went out and bought all the rest of their albums, and now they are one of my all time top five favorite bands.
I want to do that day again.
